Lucifer Morningstar is a DC Comics character appearing primarily as a supporting character in the comic book series The Sandman and as the title character of a spin-off, both published under the Vertigo imprint.

Though various depictions of Lucifer – the Biblical fallen angel and Devil of the Abrahamic religions – have been presented by DC Comics in their run, this interpretation by Neil Gaiman debuted in The Sandman in 1989. Like many modern interpretations of Satan, DC's Lucifer owes much to the character's portrayal in John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, though Gaiman adapts the character to fit the fictional DC Universe where their comics are set, where the character exists alongside superheroes and deities from multiple religions.

Later, the character acquired an ongoing Lucifer spin-off series written by Mike Carey, depicting his adventures on Earth, Heaven, and in the various other realms of his family's creations and in uncreated voids after abandoning Hell in the Sandman series.[1] Lucifer also appears as a supporting character in issues of The Demon, The Spectre, and other DC Universe comics. Two angels, several demons, a human, and briefly Superman[2] have taken his place as ruler of Hell.

In 2010, IGN named Lucifer as the 68th greatest comic book villain of all time.

As always, let's start with what I didn't like about this series. This concept is a horse being beaten well beyond death. Much like Jeb Bush’s campaign, same shit, different package. Some may remember two failed series that were on FOX that kinda, sorta had the same plot...BRIMSTONE 1998-99.
A dead cop, sentenced to Hell, is returned to Earth by the Devil to recover 113 escaped evil spirits.

Or, yet another failed FOX series....KINDRED: THE EMBRACED 1996.
Series based on the White Wolf role-playing game, Vampire: the Masquerade. Julian Luna, the undead Prince of the City, leads the Vampire Clans as he falls in love with Caitlin, a human reporter.

Now to be honest, I was unaware that this is based on a D.C. graphic novel so, my opinion is just that, my F'Beep'n opinion. So, if I piss off any truly hard core fans, eat a dick and chill. This series has...SOME potential to stand on it's own and perhaps survive longer than a season or two. It is set in one of the only cities where Lucifer would be found to be giving no F'Beeps for his duties in Hell, “Hell-A” (That's my name for L.A.). The casting of Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar was balls on!

He has the right look and accent of what any of us would think the Devil would assume if he were to take a “Meat Suit” and walk among us. I have yet to make up my mind about the human woman who has captured his curiosity.
Lauren German plays Chloe Dancer who is a former one-hit wonder actress turned slightly disgraced L.A.P.D. Detective. She is apparently immune to Lucifer’s suggestions and this fascinates him. I would like to see her be more cop like and less “Candle in the wind”.

The interesting dynamic here is the Devil on Lucifer’s shoulder (See what I did there? Puns.) Mazikeen. She is a demon that accompanied Lucifer and is played by
Lesly-Anne Brandt. She is unhappy with her current role as bar tender in Lucifer’s club and hates how “Human Like” her king is becoming. Add to the mix the reoccurring visits from Amenadiel played by
D.B. Woodside who has been sent by father (God) to remind Lucifer of his place and that he should return there. THAT subplot is why, if they are smart, they will focus on it more.

The possibility of a war between angles and demons is very strong in every scene these two share. Add the fact that Mazikeen has the look of greed and rebellion about her, this could propel the series. All in all, I will give it a chance to see if it can build on this well traveled ground it's currently on.
